A group of 22 met at ‘General’ George’s abode last Thursday to head off for the September Mid Month Run to the Jim Clark Museum.
It was a full day, setting off from Colton at 10:00am and heading south to Duns via Cairn Lodge Services where we had tea / coffee and scones all set out in an area reserved specially for Ayrshire Classics!
Marvellous service and a very enjoyable little stop.
Leaving there and heading to Duns was a very long haul but it saw us arriving for light lunch at 2:00pm in the Jim Clark Bistro – again a 10 out of 10 experience. We were very well looked after.
The Museum is a few streets away and we soon found out that the staff there know everything about Jim Clark’s life and the visit was very interesting & very enjoyable.
From there it’s a two hour run to Biggar. We did seem to go different ways but all ended up at the Crown Hotel where the high tea was all set up for us. Once again we were very well looked after.
Rumour has it that Bill Torrance and Moria had a selection of about 10 cakes at their table for two ;). It was a great setting to relax in and have a good chat before everybody left and headed home.
Everyone who attended had nothing but praise for the organisation and the welcome at the various venues throughout the day – Well done ‘General’ ! Mission accomplished.
A great time was had by all, except perhaps for the mouse that ventured into Georges garage as the video will show…..
John Jefford perhaps summed it up best with his comments:
- Great run to Duns. Organisation superb. Food at stops exceptional. Company wonderful. Weather cracking. What more can you say. John Jefford.
P.S. Yes and the Jim Clark museum was very well done and extremely interesting.
A day of superlatives!
There is a selection of images of the day below for your enjoyment – These will be added to later in the week when we upload the pictures that Richard McPaul took of the day:
By the time everyone had recovered from the mid month jaunt it was Sunday and the Newmilns Festival which we had been invited to support by displaying some of our vehicles.
The weather on the Saturday had been stunning and it was probably too much to ask for it to be completely dry on the Sunday, but it did remain largely dry despite being wet and grey on arrival.
There was a very respectable turn out and it was great to see a number of new members coming along to enjoy their first show with us – Welcome to the Club!
There was great reaction to the display and as always it was great to see so many youngsters being allowed to sit in the cars and learn about them (and adults!)
Once again, the reaction to the day from members was very positive and it’s fair to say that a day spent chatting about cars is never a day wasted.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to support the Festival and turn up on the day to represent Ayrshire Classics so well.
How long did it take you to remove the grass cuttings from the wheel arches when you got home? 😉
