**CANCELLED** – Drive it Day 2020
Apr 26 all-day

First introduced in 2005, the format for Drive It Day is a tried and tested formula. The FBHVC sets the date each year (as close as possible to the anniversary of the 1000 Mile Trial) and publicises the event nationally. The many clubs that comprise the Federation’s membership then plan and schedule regional and local events throughout the country. The events are as varied as the vehicles taking part and include Drive Outs, Rallies, and meetings at local beauty spots or historic sites. Important venues such as The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Brooklands, Lakelands Motor Museum, The British Motor Museum, Gaydon and Bicester Heritage are a few of the major locations that usually participate but there will be scores of events the length and breadth of the country.

Detail of the original event, courtesy of Graces Guide to British industrial history, can be seen here

The site also has links to “The Autocar” for the year of the event, 1900, which are here

Member clubs are encouraged to let the Federation know their plans. The easiest method is to post on the  FBHVC facebook page here or to the FBHVC National Coordinator for Drive it Day is Ken Coad who can be contacted on email coadspeed@btinternet.com

Dates for future Year’s Drive It Days will be as follows:

2020 – 26th April
2021 – 25th April
2022 – 24th April
2023 – 23rd April
2024 – 21st  April

Millport Classic Car Event @ Garrison Grounds
May 9 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Entry deadline – 2/5/20

Millport Classic Car Event was born out of Jimmy Newton’s love and enthusiasm for old cars.

Having visited Classic shows and events for most of his life, Jimmy decided his beautiful island home would make an ideal location for such an event.  He contacted several organisations but it became clear to Jimmy that none were willing to bring their events to the Isle of Cumbrae so he decided to start his own.

May 2014 was his first event, paid for out of his own

pocket and with a little help from donations from his

sons who own local business’s, the event attracted a

lovely crowd who enjoyed the 18 cars on display and

the parade along the promenade.

The car owners enjoyed their time too and were treated

to lunch and refreshments from Jimmy’s wife and

daughter in law.

That first event was declared a great success and plans were

into place for the following year.

2015 saw 38 stunning cars on display in the beautiful grounds of the Garrison on Millports scenic sea front.

The Millport Classic Car event has gone from strength to strength with 2016,  locals and visitors were treated to 64 fabulous ‘old timers’ and prizes were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed cars.

The winner was treated to a luxury stay for 2 at the Royal George Hotel Millport.

In 2017 the rain did not damped our spirits and we had a turn out of 70!

Last year was our biggest yet with 90 lovingly restored works of wonder.

A Millport Classic Car Committee has now been formed and fundraising by the members and locals will help to ensure this family friendly event continues to grow.

If you would like to visit or show off your own car at this years event, please do contact us.

The date is set for Saturday 9th May 2020 we look forward to welcome you there.
